The season for winter sports is from the middle of December through to the end of March.
The Alps are covered with snow and Berchtesgaden desends into a period of prolonged festivities.
The region offers 5 ski resorts: Jenner, Rossfeld, Gotschen, Obersalzberg and Hochschwarzeck.
Jenner – the main skiing resort
- 8,5km of red level trails
- Gondola lift, chairlift and 3 T-bar lifts
- 5,6km of black level trails from the top of mountain Jenner (1874m) to the lake Könnigssee with a vertical drop of 1170m.
Jenner is the largest resort in Berchtesgaden, offering its visitors the widest range of skiing trails. In fact, the trails of Jenner are internationally renowned and used by professional skiers training for the Winter Olympics.
Rossfeld – the panoramic resort
- 8km of blue trails
- 4 T-bar lifts
At 1600m, Rossfeld resort is the preferred tourist destination, offering breathtaking views over the Salzburg and Berchtesgaden valleys. Rossfeld is an ideal place for beginners too. Parents can enjoy the slopes, whilst children are taught by the experienced ski instructors on site.
Gotschen – the night trail
Götschen is considered to be one of Europe’s finest night ski trails. The trails are lit up with gigantic lights. Sledging, ice-skating, snowboarding or skiing is all on offer.
Obersalzberg – the ropeway resort

For families, we recommend a visit to the Obersalzberg. Children will enjoy several interesting ski programs plus a special playground. As well as skiing down the smooth Alpine hillsides, you can choose one of the many hiking trails down the 1,000m hill.
Hochschwarzeck– the sledging resort
- 4,9km of blue trails
- Sledging trail
Hochschwarzeck is located close to the Obersalzberg skiing resort. In winter time, you can sledge down on one trail or join the children on the easy ski slopes.
There is a bus stop nearby that will get you to Kehlstein.
The area offers a wide range of ski schools, aimed at all different levels of experience. Rent your ski equipment for a reasonable price, book a course with an English speaking instructor and then round your day off by relaxing in the spas.
With so much on offer, the very best winter holiday can be experienced in Berchtesgaden.
